Idyllwings
Drifting lazily across the surface of lakes, ponds, and other waters of Etherheim are creatures that, at a glance, may easily be mistaken as the same waterfowl of our own world. Further inspection of these creatures, known as Idyllwings, reveals key differences between them and our own ducks/geese/swans, the most notable being a secondary set of wings where a bird's feet would normally be.

These extra wings are actually just extensions of the hind leg, which do still have feet, though they're usually hidden or partially obscured when not being used to clumsily waddle on solid ground (these feet are observed with or without webbing in equal measure). The wings themselves are actually structured more like a penguin's flipper, solid and lacking pinions. Unsurprisingly, idyllwings are entirely flightless without being magically assisted, spending most of their lives within or near the water's edge.

Individuals come in a vast variety of shapes and colors but typically fall into one of two distinct types, simply referred to as petite (small) and grande (large).
Grande idyllwings, on the other hand, are more comparable to geese or swans in appearance, though far larger in size. They're strong enough to comfortably transport passengers and luggage across water with shocking ease and swiftness, making them a tempting mount candidate. Unfortunately, wild individuals tend to be quite timid or even aggressive. They can be difficult to form a companionship with and will never truly be tame, forcing all but the most patient and experienced handlers to admire from afar.

Fledglings of both types imprint upon whoever cares for them in their first moments of life, usually a parent or sibling or, sometimes very rarely, someone lucky enough to find and hatch an abandoned egg themselves.
